St Mary's Church, Chalgrove

Specialist Heating Design

Details:

St Mary's Church presented a unique set of challenges when it came to heating: underfloor heating was ruled out due to historic tombs, wall-mounted systems were unsuitable because of important medieval wall paintings, and oil or gas services were impractical given the church's rural location. CES was commissioned to develop a bespoke, sustainable solution that would respect the building's heritage while improving comfort for its users.

Working within these constraints, we designed and installed a system of long-wave radiant heating panels, discreetly painted and mounted at high level in the Nave and Aisles. These panels provide gentle, even warmth, protecting both the congregation and the fabric of the church.

The scheme was rigorously tested and developed over time, with temperature trials and operational samples monitored in situ. Our approach was subject to detailed scrutiny and was approved by a range of conservation professionals, including representatives from Historic England, the Diocese, and specialist heritage consultants.

This project is a testament to our ability to craft elegant, effective systems that serve both people and place — where innovation meets sensitivity.
